Cha Tae Hyun Tells BFF Kim Jong Kook to Cheer Up as Ratings Remain Low for ′Running Man′

Cha Tae Hyun Tells BFF Kim Jong Kook to Cheer Up as Ratings Remain Low for ′Running Man′

In regards to Running Man′s low ratings, Cha Tae Hyun told his best friend, Kim Jong Kook to cheer up.

On August 29, Cha Tae Hyun attended the production presentation for his new movie Slow Video at the CGV Theaters in Apgujeong.

With his movie about paying attention to people through CCTV, Cha Tae Hyun was asked to say something to someone who hasn′t had his attention for a while.

“I haven′t paid attention to Kim Jong Kook in a while. I′ve been taking care of Hong Kyung Min so much, but Kim Jong Kook′s situation isn′t all that great either.”

“Just like how it was for me a year ago [on KBS′ 1 Night, 2 Days], in the three broadcast stations, [SBS′ Running Man] is falling slightly behind,” said Cha Tae Hyun.

“But I can′t really give him words of comfort…this kind of relationship has been continuing for three years now. It′s so uncomfortable,” added Cha Tae Hyun, as Running Man and 1 Night 2 Days are competitors in the same time slot.

When a reporter asked if this is his way of telling Kim Jong Kook to cheer up, Cha Tae Hyun replied, “Yes. Cheer up! We also endured it and it′s a bit better now. Who knows how long this will last.”

The actor also stated, “When he was doing well, I′m sure he felt the same. When we meet, we say good things to each together, but really it doesn′t matter, because every Monday, we′re both checking the ratings.”

Slow Video is about a man who can see things in slow motion. He later gets hired at the Korean CCTV Control Center, receiving strange missions to fulfill. It premieres on October 2.

The new ‘1 Night 2 Days’ jumps to #1 in Sunday night ratings

It’s that time of the week again when the Sunday variety shows go head to head!

Coming in at #1 this week, yet again, was MBC‘s ‘Sunday Sunday Night‘. ‘Real Men‘, however, fell drastically down 4.3% to 13.2%. ‘Dad, Where Are You Going?‘ also fell 1.8% down to 14.1%. However, both ratings were still high enough to make the entire segment rank #1 with a 12.8% for the night.

KBS‘ ‘Happy Sunday‘ finally recovered! The new season for its trademark ‘1 Night 2 Days‘ started off amazingly with 14.3% rating, the highest for the night. ‘Superman is Back‘ managed to keep its rating of 6.8%, and the segment came second with 11.0% for the night.

SBS‘ ‘Good Sunday‘s ‘Running Man‘ dropped 1.1% to 13.3%. The new season of ‘K-Pop Star‘ climbed up 0.6% up to 9.0%, but the entire segment rated last for the night at 10.7%.

Do you think ‘1 Night 2 Days’ can keep its newfound success going?

KBS denies rumors of ‘1N2D’ cancellation

KBS denied rumors of the cancellation of its KBS 2TV variety show ‘1 Night 2 Days‘ (‘1N2D‘).

The rumor began when a broadcast insider stated that ‘1N2D’ will be canceled during KBS’ reformatting this fall. The rumor wouldn’t have been believable, but the show has been garnering mediocre viewer ratings, achieving a 10.7% last week.

A KBS representative firmly denied the rumors on the 8th. He stated, “This is my first time hearing rumors of ‘1N2D’ being canceled during the reformat this fall. There have been no talks of that in the broadcast station… ‘1N2D’ will continue on as normal with no change in staff or cast members.”

The official statement released by the network also said that considering ‘1N2D’ has been one of KBS’ most recognizable variety shows since 2007, both KBS and the crew will work hard to improve its quality.

‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education’ beats out competitors in its time slot with premiere

Kang Ho Dong‘s new variety show ‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education‘ is off to a good start as it debuted as #1 in its time slot, beating out ‘Incarnation‘.

AGB Nielsen Korea reported on April 10th that the 9th’s airing of KBS2‘s ‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education’ received a 6.2% viewer rating, which is a solid rating for this particular slot.

‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education’ stars Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun, Changmin, among others, and the premise of the show is that the stars go to different neighborhoods and compete against regular citizens. The first episode featured the MCs recruiting celebrities for their ping pong match against ordinary citizens.

SBS‘s ‘Incarnation’ that airs during the same time slot received a rating of 4.9%, which is a 2% drop from what it rated the previous week. This big drop allowed MBC‘s ‘PD Notebook‘ to rise above it with a 5.3% rating.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research on the 15th, the March 14th broadcast of ‘Knee Drop Guru‘ achieved a 8.2% viewer rating which was a whopping 3.1% increase from its previous viewer rating of 5.1%!

KBS cancels Kang Ho Dong’s ‘Moonlight Prince’

After several weeks of limping along with less-than-stellar ratings, KBS has finally pulled the plug on one of Kang Ho Dong‘s ambitious comeback programs, ‘Moonlight Prince‘.

Also featuring Tak Jae Hoon and TVXQ‘s Changmin, the show revolved around a discussion on a weekly selection of books. Despite the good intentions of the program, the show failed to capture an audience, losing out to its competitors such as SBS‘s ‘Incarnation‘.

The final recording of ‘Moonlight Prince’ will take place on March 6th, with the follow-up program currently under discussion.

Kang Ho Dong reveals his discomfort over his shows’ low viewer ratings

Recently returned from an extended hiatus, comedian Kang Ho Dong confessed to his discomfort over his programs’ current struggle with low viewer ratings.

“Everywhere I go, I hear people telling me to cheer up,” he confessed on the latest episode of his talk program, MBC‘s ‘Radio Star – Knee Drop Guru‘. “They tell me to stay strong.”

“I’m the one who should be giving them strength, but I’m the one receiving it instead,” he said, revealing his worry over his programs’ low viewer ratings. Both of his current shows, KBS‘s ‘Moonlight Prince‘ and MBC’s ‘Radio Star – Knee Drop Guru’, have been suffering from lower-than-expected numbers, causing some to wonder if the ‘nation’s MC’ has lost his touch after such a long time away from the spotlight.
