Cha Tae Hyun Hopes “1 Night 2 Days” Beats “Gag Concert” at End-of-year Awards

Cha Tae Hyun Hopes “1 Night 2 Days” Beats “Gag Concert” at End-of-year Awards

Actor Cha Tae Hyun has revealed that he would like to beat “Gag Concert” with “1 Night 2 Days” at the end-of-year award ceremonies.

Cha Tae Hyun said in the press conference held on December 10 at the KBS wedding hall about KBS 2TV‘s variety show “1 Night 2 Days,” that he recommends Kim Joon Ho again for Grand Prize (Daesang). He said, “I don’t think it would be a problem if Kim Joon Ho got the Daesang this year since the situation with ’1 Night 2 Days’ improved a lot, although there’s still ‘Superman Returns‘ [to beat].”

He added, “We finished filming last week. We filmed seven or eight different scenarios, ones in which we actually got the Grand Prize, one in which we didn’t, one in which we didn’t get nominated. Then there was one where Joon Ho gets the Grand Prize, one where we get the Grand Prize as a team, one where we are dejected because ‘Superman Returns’ gets the Grand Prize. And as such, we don’t feel too pressured.”

Also, he joked, “It’s a better situation than last year. Personally, I would like to get the Program Prize where the viewers vote for their favorite shows. I would like to beat ‘Gag Concert.’ Although it would be okay losing to ‘Superman Returns,’ I would like to beat ‘Gag Concert.’”

Meanwhile, “1 Night 2 Days” celebrated its first anniversary of its third season on December 1. With the addition of Kim Joo Hyuk, Kim Joon Ho, Cha Tae Hyun, Defcon, Kim Jong Min, Jung Joon Young, season three of “1 Night 2 Days” overcame the low ratings of the second season and currently has the highest rating of Sunday variety show programs.

Although it was rumored at the last second that actor Lee Jun Ki may be the last member joining the bunch, the actor’s agency shot down the speculations, commenting, “Although it is true that we thankfully received a casting offer from KBS, the staff carefully reviewed it… But [Lee Jun Ki] already has a fan meeting and other schedules line up and more than anything else, his will to focus on acting as the actor Lee Jun Ki is strong. We decided that this may conflict with his acting activities so we respectfully rejected the offer.”

Shin Bo Ra, “Lee Seung Gi likes pretty girls, doesn’t mind skinship”

Comedian Shin Bo Ra exposed the two contrasting sides of Lee Seung Gi.

In the ‘Brave Guys‘ segment of KBS 2TV’s ‘Gag Concert‘, Shin Bo Ra mentioned Lee Seung Gi, who had appeared as a guest on the October 25th episode of the program.

Shin Bo Ra revealed some pictures and said, “Last week, Lee Seung Gi appeared on ‘Discovery of Life‘. He had great manners and took all the pictures he was requested.”

The pictures shown were taken in the green room for the program. In one of the pictures, Lee Seung Gi is posing affectionately with comedian Kim Ji Min. There was even a little bit of skinship with Lee Seung Gi’s hand on Kim Ji Min’s shoulder.

However, another picture taken with Oh Na Mi told a different story. Oh Na Mi is smiling happily but Lee Seung Gi appears to have a serious facial expression with his hands gathered in front of him.

Shin Bo Ra had the viewers laughing when she yelled out towards the audience members, “Lee Seung Gi checks women’s faces.”

Though the pictures seemed to have been a product of a request from the program and the funny entertainer Lee Seung Gi appears to have obliged, they certainly served the purpose quite well in creating a wave of laughter.

Netizen comments on Lee Seung Gi’s pictures include: “Obviously he was requested to take them like that”, “It’s so obvious that the pictures were set up like that”, “Seung Gi is a guy after all.”

Lee Seung Gi is accused of discriminating fans according to their appearance

Gag Concert‘s Shin Bo Ra has jokingly accused Lee Seung Gi of discriminating fans according to their appearance.
On “Brave Guys,” a popular segment on Gag Concert that aired on December 2, Shin Bo Ra brought up singer and actor Lee Seung Gi, who appeared on last week’s episod as her “new boyfriend.”
She talked about last week’s after-the-filming session with Lee Seung Gi. Before she spoke, she seemed to reminisce about sweet memories she had with the A-lister just a week ago.
The comedian opened up: “I must admit I really loved him. You know, he is handsome, smart yet modest and has good character.” She said Lee took part in photo shoots for the cast and crew members of Gag Concert behind the stage after the filming last week. She said all the cast and crew were all on cloud nine because the heartthrob was willing to pose with each of them, showing some of the photos with Lee one by one.
In all the photos, Lee does strike a pose earnestlyexcept one with comedian Oh Na Mi.
Lee’s awkward pose with Oh Na Mi showed a stark contrast to the one with Kim Ji Min, one of the pretties cast in the show.
Shin Bo Ra claimed: “Lee Seung Gi discriminates his fans according to their appearance.”
Park Sung Gwang grumbled: “With a man, he didn’t even give a chance to do that.”

Lee Seung Gi Addresses his ‘Running Man’ Appearance on ‘Gag Concert’ with Na PD

After being on KBS’ 1 Night, 2 Days for most of his twenties, Lee Seung Gi was recently asked about his participation on SBS’ Running Man, the rival program of 1 Night, 2 Days.

On November 25, Lee Seung Gi came out as the boyfriend of comedienne Shin Bora in her skit, ‘The Discovery of Life’ on KBS’ Gag Concert.

Starting from his umchinah image to parodying his kimchi commercials, Lee Seung Gi had the audience roaring in laughter, as Shin Bora’s onstage boyfriend, Song Joong Geun fumed in jealousy.

When Song Joon Geun bitterly addressed Lee Seung Gi’s ‘betrayal’ to 1 Night, 2 Days and Shin Bora pointed out that the producer for 1 Night, 2 Days was sitting right in front of him in the audience, Lee Seung Gi cleverly recovered from being a betrayer by saying, “It’s okay. Na PD quit 1 Night, 2 Days with me.”

Ending with a happy note, Lee Seung Gi then continued, “But Na PD and I both love 1 Night, 2 Days. 1 Night, 2 Days forever!” He then got all the audience members to do the 1 Night, 2 Days chant with PD Na Young Seok laughing.

Meanwhile, Gag Concert recorded a high rating of 20.9 percent, while SBS’ Running Man, which also featured Lee Seung Gi recorded 18.3 percent. 1 Night, 2 Days received 19.9 percent.

Lee Seung Gi to appear on ‘Gag Concert’ as Shin Bora’s boyfriend

Following his latest variety show appearance on SBS‘ ‘Running Man‘, Lee Seung Gi will be visiting KBS‘ ‘Gag Concert‘ next to participate in the popular skit ‘Discovery of Life‘.

On November 21, a representative revealed, “Lee Seung Gi will be participating in the November 21st filming of ‘Gag Concert’.”

According to the representative, the singer will act in the ‘Discovery of Life’ segment as comedian Shin Bora‘s new boyfriend, which is bound to make “ex-boyfriend” Song Joon Geun jealous.

Meanwhile, Lee Seung Gi will be making his comeback as a singer with his 5.5 mini-album, ‘Forest‘, on the 22nd.

News updates from Varietyland

Varietyland was teeming with news the last few days, so I thought it’d be worth waiting till the dust settled and summing up some news, rumors, and developments that have been going on. First: Star variety PD Na Young-seok (or Na PD, Evil Genius Extraordinaire) of the original 1 Night 2 Days, has been developing a new show for KBS, which sent everyone’s speculation meters running wild.

Rumors that he’d reteam with Kang Ho-dong or Lee Seung-gi came from every direction, but in the end, neither proved to be true. *sadface* But Na PD has announced his new show, and meanwhile both Ho-dong and Seung-gi are reportedly in talks to headline new variety shows as well, but each separately. Guys, what do we have to do to get the band back together here?

After taking a year-long hiatus from the biz, Kang Ho-dong is finally back in action. Yay! He has returned to SBS’s Star King and MBC’s Knee Drop Guru, and is reportedly developing a brand new show for KBS. Fans held out hope he might join the second season of 1 Night 2 Days, but I agree with the concerns of Season 2′s PDs that it would send the new cast off-balance, after they’ve just now started to find their groove. The first season of that show will always be my favorite, but I think it’s worth giving the second season its own identity. No specifics yet on what Kang Ho-dong’s new show for KBS will be.

Then news broke that Go Hyun-jung’s talk-variety show Go Show is going to be cancelled, after only six months on the air. It’s an SBS show on Friday nights, and despite the high-profile name and strong veteran co-hosts, I’m not surprised the show isn’t doing well. I never liked or understood the point of the format — a mock casting session — and Go Hyun-jung is an amazing actress, but her variety self leaves me cold. The show hit a high of 10.5% ratings, but has eventually dipped to the 5% range as of late, and will be getting the axe by December.

So then follows the natural question: What will replace Go Show? And then another series of stories sprang up, reporting that Lee Seung-gi is in talks to headline a new variety show for SBS, to fill that time slot. But that’s a story firmly in hedging, “considering, unconfirmed” territory, so I would take it with a grain of salt. There’s also another rumor that the slot will go to a new show MC’d by Shin Dong-yup and Yoon Jong-shin. I say let them have the Friday night slot, and jump on Ho-dong-ie hyung’s new show!

And finally, here’s one thing that IS confirmed: Na PD revealed his new variety show for KBS, called The Human Condition. Hahaha, I don’t know if it’s supposed to be an ironic existential-problem-reduced-to-variety title, but all I see is Na PD giving a group of boys the bare minimum of things to survive in the wild, and then smiling, “It’s The Human Condition, Badumching!”

It stars a quartet of some of Gag Concert’s hottest stars: Kim Joon-hyun (top left), Kim Joon-ho (top right), Heo Kyung-hwan (bottom left), and Yang Sang-gook (bottom right). At least we know cast chemistry won’t be a problem with a foursome of comedians who work together all the time… just as long they don’t try too hard to out-funny each other, and as long as somebody remembers to MC the thing.

The show’s concept is pretty literal when it comes to the title — they’re going to focus on one “necessary human condition” each week… and take it away from the boys. Mwahahahahaha. Why is Na PD such an evil mastermind? I don’t know how barebones it goes, because are we talking about food and water, or comforts of modern living like cell phones and ATM cards? Do we have to watch them live without showers? Or starve to death on a deserted island if they can’t catch their own food? I’m not even sure which would be funnier, but I can’t wait to find out.

The Human Condition premieres in November.
